RIVER DANCE PERFORMANCE
This year's Solstice River is the ninth annual site-specific performance
honoring the Mississippi River on the longest day of the year. Standing
on the Stone Arch Bridge near downtown Minneapolis, the audience watches
as the site explodes with dancers, colorful fabric, boats and kayaks.
New this year, Mdewakanton Sioux (Dakota) community members will be
infusing their sensitivity into the event. The dance always incorporates
recurring aspects from previous years, yet brings in new elements. Dancers
perform atop buildings surrounding the site, including the Pillsbury
A Mill, the old silos at the Mill City Museum, the St. Anthony Falls
Hydro Lab and the lock and dam. Free.
